“I am captured by the simple truth that life is better with Jesus. If more people know and follow, and are known by Jesus, then we will see individuals, communities, our world, changed for the better.

My hope for Salt and Light Collective is simple: to see ordinary Anglicans confidently sharing Jesus, churches coming alive with mission, and people across Aotearoa discovering the hope and fullness of life found in Christ.

We’re here to try new things, get our hands dirty and follow God into the places where he is already at work. The future is bright. Let’s be salt. Let’s be light.Jethro DayDirector S&LC

Mission is not reserved for a gifted few—it belongs to the whole Church. We believe faith belongs in everyday life: in our homes, workplaces, neighbourhoods and communities. We go where life happens. We listen, serve, build genuine relationships and share the hope of Jesus with humility and courage. Ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference. Together, we are salt. Together, we carry light.

Ready to help shape what’s next With Salt & Light? This might just be where your story with us begins.

Our story

The story behind Salt and Light Collective began with Church Army, founded in London by Wilson Carlile in 1882. Its purpose was simple and bold: to train ordinary people to share the gospel with other ordinary people, especially those unlikely to walk into a church.

Our story

The story behind Salt and Light Collective began with Church Army, founded in London by Wilson Carlile in 1882. Its purpose was simple and bold: to train ordinary people to share the gospel with other ordinary people, especially those unlikely to walk into a church.

Church Army has been present in New Zealand since the late 1930s, initially supporting Anglican ministry through chaplaincy and social outreach. Over time, the work became increasingly grassroots and shaped by the communities of Aotearoa.

Today, that same calling continues through Salt and Light Collective—a renewed expression of the original mission, grounded in this place and prepared for what comes next.

A little salt and light can go a long way. Salt & Light Collective is helping good things grow, one community at a time across Aotearoa New Zealand.

  • “

Salt and Light Collective recognised who God has made me to be and affirmed the blessing of knowing Jesus and sharing His love with my community. Their practical support helped me stay in New Zealand and gave me a way to raise support for the work I do. They’re always willing to help, whether that’s providing resources I need or checking I have the support and mentorship around me to keep going. I’m grateful for their encouragement, practical help, and faithful prayers.

“Working with Jethro and Salt & Light Collective over the past year has been a real joy. A beautifully unconventional bunch who love Jesus radically and put that love to work. Big hearts, sleeves rolled up, making the good news tangible in unexpected places.”
